Studies in Managing Knowledge

Paper prepared for "Mobilizing knowledge in technology management: Competence construction in the strategising and organizing of technical change." Copenhagen, Denmark, October 24-27. A conference organizid by Cistema 2 Abstract This paper discusses some of the theories concerning Knowledge Management and the concept of knowledge. The role of information technology and the implementation of a knowledge management project are discussed. Furthermore, three case examples are given in order to emphasise the conclusions. The main findings are that information technology is not sufficient to make people within an organisation share their knowledge. Knowledge Management does not start with technology. Instead one has to address the culture and traditions of the organisation in order to motivate knowledge sharing throughout the organisation and avoid power struggles, or personal conflicts within the organisation due to incommensurable paradigms. The paper is concluded with noted fields for further research of Knowledge Management.
